Titan X Wind Tunnel

Wind tunnel testing of the aerodynamic elements of the RIT racing F30 Formula SAE car

During my first year on the team, in an effort to validate the aero package for the car we brought it to TitanX's Wind tunnel and examined flow using a smoke wand and yarn. We also collected data such as down force, measured using scales in the floor, and drag force using a load cell on a bracket I machined. This experience was incredibly valuable for me as it gave me great insight on the aero systems of the car and what they did as well as working with a team to collect data in a very professional and sponsored environment. When we go back I plan on build a replica of their tunnel in 3D to test in our simulation program, Ansys fluent, to more accurately validate by removing variables.
